Overwatch 2 new hero Hazard breaks into the scene

As punk as it gets.

Overwatch 2 just unveiled its explosive new hero, and he’s a rebel with a cause.

The new Overwatch 2 is a Scottish cyberpunk tank named “Hazard”. Armed with a high-energy elemental isotope, this disruptor commands a large arsenal that can shred enemy defences.

Curious about Overwatch 2’s new hero? Here’s everything you need to know about the latest entry in the roster.

Overwatch 2 new tank hero: Hazard

In his hero reveal trailer, “Haz” and his crew infiltrate the Oasis research center to steal the Vanadium isotope A.K.A. the mysterious floating orb of black goo in one of the respawn points.

Similar to heroes Doomfist, Sojourn, and Genji, Hazard sports heavy cybernetic augmentations. But after integrating an unstable Vanadium isotope into his system, he’s ready to take on the competition.

What is Vanadium?

Vanadium is a highly-conductive “transition metal” with a high melting point. In the official Overwatch lore, a variation of the element was found in the dig site in Petra. And not only was it near-indestructible, but it also had “highly efficient energy transference”, letting Hazard wreak havoc in his planned heist with his crew.

Phreak leader

Past leaks contained hero icons for a green-and-white punk codenamed “Phreak”, but now we know it was either a red herring or an old clue. Instead, the name is being repurposed for Hazard’s band of cyberpunk robbers, and they might have a larger role in the fight against Anubis.

Overwatch 2 Hazard Abilities

Hazard’s abilities let him disrupt enemy formations, deal AOE damage, and rain down a hail of Vanadium spikes.

Hazard’s passive wasn’t made clear in his trailer, but given how much chrome he’s packing (and how “unstable” the Vanadium is), he’ll probably have some drawbacks when he uses his skills, making Haz a high-risk, high-reward tank.
