To The Moon Review

I never thought I would play a game that reminded me of 2004′s “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. I also never thought I would play a game about a dying old man’s final wish, or play a game that made me come pretty damn close to breaking down in tears. To The Moon is that game, and it’s probably the most charmingly unique game I have ever played. This is not to say it’s the greatest game I have ever played, but in an industry obsessed with creating the next blockbuster action franchise, it’s an amazingly refreshing experience.

Sonic Generations 3DS Review

Games like this don’t often get a lot of attention. When some major release comes out for home console, the last thought in the mind of an exited fan is to go out and buy the version on the ‘inferior’ handheld console, when all it would end up being is low quality port. Well I’m very disappointed in the ‘fans’ that shoot down the handheld versions before even giving them a chance, because in the case of Sonic the Hedgehog, the 3DS version is a very different beast entirely. Like Sonic Colours before it, the handheld version of Sonic Generations brings something very different to the table.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Beta Impressions

The Old Republic sure looks a lot like the movies these days.

BioWare and Electronic Arts have lifted the non-disclosure agreements from the beta of their massively multiplayer online world, and the news is starting to flow about what the latest venture into the Star Wars galaxy is like.  Sitting down for a day of gaming, I found myself sucked into George Lucas’ brainchild, and playing the adventure as just one more character in the persistent world that has been presented to me; the question is, how does the game look?

Bioware have been busy. With the highly anticipated Star Ware: The Old Republic MMO now within grasping distance and the (also highly anticipated) final part of the Mass Effect trilogy out early next year, fans of Dragon Age will be wondering if their third instalment is going to get any love. Well, not from me because Bioware have made an announcement saying that they’ve got a brand new game in the works which will be fully unveiled at the Video Game Awards, which will be on Spike TV on the 9th of December.

Alan Wake game announced. Not Alan Wake 2.

One of the hidden gems of the last few years.

Numbers show that if you’re like most people you missed out on purchasing the light vs dark thriller that was Alan Wake. It was a game a half decade in production but unlike other games that spent that long in development it was actually a very good game when it came out. If you did miss it Alan Wake was a story about a writer with a terrible case of writers block, when he and his wife go to a small mountain town called Bright Falls to get away from work and the city his wife is taken away by an unseen force and Alan awakens a week later in a car crash with no memory of how he got there, the story only gets worse when he starts being attacked by people that are seemingly wrapped in shadows and starts to find pages from a book that he wrote about himself and even worse is that it’s all coming true.

Gaming News Rundown

I have a confession to make, Skyrim is a productivity killer.  Just over a week of playing the game has made it abundantly clear to me that, a bad case of getting sick aside, I don’t want to do much else right now.  Still, when I pulled my head out from under the rock I’ve been living under all week, I was able to take a look around and find out a few important happenings in the gaming industry.  Here’s a look at some of the bigger news, and I might as well start with Skyrim:

Review: Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary

Back into the ring for one more round.

Halo divided camps from the beginning: those who saw the Xbox’s prized launch title as nothing more than a polished copy of previous shooter principles, and those who understood the revolutionary nature of its open-ended gameplay and eloquently scripted plot.  While those same camp wars continue, the latter group have been graced once more with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, an honourary, graphically-enhanced salute to Bungie’s loyal ten-year fanbase. No longer in command of the control center, however, the honour of firing those twenty-one guns pointed at the head of the universe falls on the shoulders of 343 Industries, the new task force assigned to future Halo operations.   In their first test, have they mastered the Master or wronged the relic ring’s respectability?
